On September 4th, we started drawing things on a whiteboard. These things were for our monomaterial headpiece project. It was fun because we all got to include our ideas. this is what we came up with:
We wanted to do this, because Halloween was coming up soon, and pumpkins are symbolic of halloween.
The next day we needed to make a project proposal. This needed to be detailed enough so that someone else could recreate it exactly.
In our next class, we worked with texturing cardboard. We were supposed to make something old, something organic, and something of our choice. I made an old building, a tree, and a round piece of cardboard. The goal of this was for us to learn new methods of texturing.
The next class, we worked on ideas for how we should make the pumpkin shape. We decided to connect two circles with 8 half circles, this is the prototype we came up with:
The next day, we divided the work amongst our selves. Each person worked on different things, Shritan was assigned the antlers, Carter was assigned the witch hat, and Quentin and I were assigned the pumpkin. We then spent time learning how to use the laser cutter. We practiced the plan standard by planning out who was going to do what and how we were going to laser print it.
The next day, we spent time laser printing circles, we made 2 16 inch wide circles with a width of 2 inches.
The next day, I couldn’t laser cut the other parts during class so I stayed after during lunch. I forgot to get pictures of it.
Today, we hot glued all of the pieces together. When putting it together we went through a process of deciding how to glue them together. We ended up cutting the bottom of each half circle which made gluing it on a lot easier. I didn’t get a picture of it, but this is kind of what it looks like:
We practiced the Innovate standard because Mrs. Kato-Star sent us a picture that looked like this. We used this Idea, but changed a few things, like making the bottom circle bigger and the top circle is closed off.
These past two weeks I have gotten better at laser cutting, and figuring out solutions to problems. Like using less hot glue when gluing cardboard together. Laser cutting was a little bit difficult, but I got the hang of it.
I don’t know what my next project will be. I want to try new materials, because we have only used paper and cardboard.
