Physical Computing Prototype

The compliment light board is a screen of dots that is coded to give you a nice message at random when you hit a button. The screen says “Hmm…” as you hold the button down. Once you release it, the screen shows a random compliment such as “Cheers.”

When we started thinking of ideas, our original idea was to make a sound board that went up and down based on the volume in the room. The purpose was for it to be a prototype for one that would be put into the basketball court for the games. We realized that the coding for it was too complicated for us and decided to make a stacker game like you would see in an arcade. We found this idea online and the coding did not look too complicated. However, after a few days it was only getting harder and we decided that we needed to change again. This time we decided to do something more manageable which is the compliment board. I was out for this week, so Robert made this project by using what he had learned from the other attempts.

Materials:
Arduino Uno R3
Dot Matrix Lightboard
Breadboard
Arduino Jumper Wires (male to male)
Breadboard Button

The purpose of this project was to create a physical project that involves code. Other examples could be an electric magic 8 ball, or electric dice. This project is defined as done when the code did exactly what we wanted it to do with the press of a button.
