Shrek Deer

For this project, the class was assigned to create a yard christmas decoration. My group, Ethan Chase and I, decided to make a reindeer like other classes had done in the past. In order to make our more unique we drew and designed a “Shrek Deer.” This would have the head and the clothes of Shrek, but the body shape of a reindeer.

When we first started the project, Ethan and Chase were online so i started sketching possible ideas in my engineering log. I am not much of an artist, so I was happy with what I drew (see picture above). Now that we knew what we wanted the final product to look like we had to figure out how it was going to be put together. We researched the internet for way to make wooden reindeers. The best option we found was to make the body and legs separate and then connect them with wooden joint pieces. To create the prototype, I drew out all the pieces we needed to scale and then used adobe to trace it and make it into a file that could be put in the laser cutting machine.

We then arranged them in a way that we wouldn’t need more than one sheet of wood. After it was all cut out we glued the pieces in. This is the final prototype:

Materials for final: Wood, projector, green paint, white paint. leather, wood glue

The purpose of this was to create these and put them in front of the school, however, due to unpredicted quarantines and covid policies in general, we were unable to finish the project before winter break. When we came back in January there was no point in making them anymore so we moved on.
